HC Deb 04 December 1969 vol 792 c340W
Mr. Eadie

asked the Secretary of State for Employment and Productivity how many jobs have been lost in the agriculture and mining industries in Midlothian since April 1966; how many new jobs have been created since that date and how many were male jobs.

Mr. Dell

The estimated number of employees in employment in Midlothian in agriculture and horticulture fell between June, 1966, and July, 1968, for males and females collectively by 500 and for males alone by 400. The corresponding reductions for coalmining were 1,200 and 1,300 respectively. Between April, 1966, and September, 1969, 56 industrial development certificates were approved in Midlothian. They were expected by the developers to give rise to 2,530 jobs (including 1,330 for males) when the projects were complete and fully manned.
