HC Deb 04 December 1969 vol 792 cc339-40W
Mr. Speed

asked the Secretary of State for Employment and Productivity when the Professional and Executive Register began to advertise on commercial television; what has been the total annual cost to the public funds incurred, the areas in which such advertising has taken place and the results which this produced; and what are her future plans for such advertising.

Mr. Dell

My Department began to publicise the Professional and Executive Register in 1967 by means of a short film (60 seconds) on the employment services which is made available for showing by the commercial television companies and by the B.B.C. on unscheduled gaps between programmes. The cost to public funds in 1967 was £1,090, and in 1968 was £101 and this is the total cost. This film has been shown in all the commercial television areas (excluding Northern Ireland) and has been put on 110 times. There is evidence that the number of inquiries have markedly increased after the showing of the film. In the next financial year my Department intends to make a revised film on this topic.
