HC Deb 04 December 1969 vol 792 cc347-8W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department who were the two Home Office officials who took Mr. Ivan Mikheyer to room No. 4 in Mrs. Ethel Murton's house in Earls Court; why the Home office paid a month's rent in advance and gave Mr. Ivan Mikheyer clothes and assisted in finding him employment; under what statutory authority this was done; and under what Vote these moneys were paid.

Mr. Callaghan

When it was decided to grant Mr. Mikheyer's request to stay in the United Kingdom arrangements were made to help and accommodate him for a short period. No statutory authority is required for this. The expenses were met from a Home Office allocation of funds for this purpose.
