HC Deb 02 December 1969 vol 792 cc270-1W
Mr. Wright

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many supplementary courses are available at colleges of education designed to prepare primary teachers for secondary school work.

Mr. Ross

Courses leading to the Teaching Qualification (Secondary Education) are offered by 5 colleges for teachers who already hold the Teaching Qualification (Primary Education) and who are graduates or are otherwise qualified for secondary work. Colleges also offer courses to graduate teachers who require additional academic qualifications to teach a particular subject. The number of courses in these categories depends on the demand.

Dundee College of Education offer a course (one year part-time, 2 years fulltime) for non-graduate primary teachers who wish to take the degree of B.Ed. and a Teaching Qualification (Secondary Education). Dunfermline College of Physical Education offer a one-year course to non-graduate primary teachers who wish to obtain a Teaching Qualification (Secondary Education) in Physical Education.
