HC Deb 02 December 1969 vol 792 cc267-8W
Mr. Lomas

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will take steps to authorise local authorities to remove unwanted and unsightly air raid shelters, some of which were erected 25 to 30 years ago.

Mr. Merlyn Rees

Local authorities have been authorised to demolish shelters at public expense if they are structurally unsound and beyond economical repair, or are a danger to health, or stand in the way of approved development; and they are aware that my right hon. Friend is prepared to consider other cases where there is some special reason for authorising demolition.
