HC Deb 03 April 1969 vol 781 c165W
Viscount Lambton

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs why a part of the postal services on the island of Anguilla has been suspended.

Mr. Whitlock

I understand that the Government of St. Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla found it necessary to suspend Anguillan postal services with effect from 10th January, 1969, because of the internal situation in the island at that time.

Mr. Grimond

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what further evidence of disreputable activities has now been discovered in Anguilla; how many prosecutions are being made; and for what offences.

Mr. Whitlock

Since the installation of Her Majesty's Commissioner a total of 32 weapons and 700 rounds of ammunition have been discovered or handed in. No prosecutions are pending at present.
