HC Deb 10 July 1968 vol 768 c71W
84. Mr. William Hamilton

asked the President of the Board of Trade, if he will now make a statement on the siting and fuelling of the proposed aluminium smelters; and what is the latest estimate that has been made of the eventual value of import saving.

Mr. Dell

On the first part of the Question, I would refer my hon. Friend to the answer given today to the hon. Members for Louth (Sir C. Osborne), Sheffield, Hallam (Mr. J. H. Osborn), Scarborough and Whitby (Mr. Michael Shaw) and Cirencester and Tewkesbury (Mr. Ridley). The import saving would depend on the precise characteristics of each project, but, after allowing for imported materials, a net saving of about £15 million per 100,000 tons would be a representative figure.
