HC Deb 10 July 1968 vol 768 cc71-2W
87. Mr. Will Owen

asked the President of the Board of Trade what action is being taken to provide employment for the people of Pegswood, Northumberland, following the proposed closure of the local colliery in 1969; and whether he will make a statement.

Mrs. Gwyneth Dunwoody

I understand that no decision has been taken to close Pegswood colliery, but the N.C.B. have announced that its results and prospects are such that its future is in jeopardy. Pegswood is in the development area and close to the South-East Northumberland special development area where some 2,900 jobs are in prospect for men in the next four years in authorised new industrial developments and in existing premises taken over by manufacturing industry.
