HC Deb 09 December 1968 vol 775 c12W
43. Mr. Gibson-Watt

asked the Minister of Transport when he will be able to state whether the Central Wales railway line will be included in the Government's grants for unprofitable lines.

68. Mr. Gwynfor Evans

asked the Minister of Transport if he has now decided whether he will treat the mid-Wales railway line as a social necessity qualifying it for subsidy.

Mr. Carmichael

We have not completed a detailed examination of this major closure proposal. If my right hon. Friend has not reached a decision by the end of the year, the passenger service will be grant-aided for the time being under the transitional powers contained in Section 39 (4) of the Transport Act, 1968.
