HC Deb 09 December 1968 vol 775 c8W
70. Sir M. Stoddart-Scott

asked the Minister of Transport what is the cause of the increase in heavy motor traffic on the road between Hampsthwaite and Leathley; how many motor accidents there have been on this stretch of road in the last 12 months; and what steps he proposes to take to deflect the heavy traffic and reduce the accident rate.

Mr. Bob Brown

Since the end of May, the laying of a gas pipe-line from a site at Leathley has caused extra traffic on this road, but this is decreasing and the site will no longer be used after the end of April next year.

Fourteen personal injury accidents have occurred on the B6161 between Leathley and its junction with the A59 in the last 12 months. The West Riding County Council, as highway authority, are responsible for this road and I understand they do not consider that any special measures are called for.
