HC Deb 15 November 1967 vol 754 cc137-8W
Mr. Hugh Jenkins

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether it is on his authority that British immigration officers request young American male visitors to this country to produce their draft cards.

Mr. Roy Jenkins

Immigration officers have not been instructed to ask American visitors to produce draft cards; but Article 12 of the Aliens Order, 1953 empowers immigration officers to examine any documents carried by an alien in order to determine whether the visitor is coming here for the purpose or period he states, and whether leave to land may properly be granted.
