62. Mr. Hamling

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he will instruct Great Britain's permanent representative at the United Nations to initiate discussions with the Secretary-General, U Thant, on a new initiative by him for a peaceful solution of the Vietnam struggle.

Mr. George Brown

U Thant and I discussed Vietnam on 5th March. We agreed that we must continue our close contact in search of ways to end the war.

Mr. Judd

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he will make a statement on his weekend talk with U Thant, Secretary-General of the United Nations, with special regard to Vietnam.
