asked the Secretary of State for Economic Affairs if he will invite the Confederation of British Industry to vet price increases in the same way as the Trades Union Congress vets wage increases.

Mr. Frederick Lee:

No. The Government consider it best to continue the present arrangements for prior notification of proposed increases in prices to the appropriate Government Departments for examination by them and where necessary by the National Board for Prices and Incomes. These arrangements apply to those firms covered by the early warning list whether or not they are members of the C.B.I.
