HC Deb 14 December 1967 vol 756 c194W
35. Mr. Bob Brown

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will call for reports from the chief constable on the results of the new policing methods employed in Newcastle-upon-Tyne; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Taverne:

I am informed by the Chief Constable that, since a system known as area policing was introduced into parts of the city earlier this year, the number of crimes reported has fallen by 10.8 per cent. and the detection rate has risen from 38.9 per cent. to 45.3 per cent.
