HC Deb 14 December 1967 vol 756 cc194-5W
37. Mr. Dance

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what steps are being taken to inform immigrants that the British police do not discriminate against them; and what is being done to combat unfair criticism of police behaviour against immigrants.

Mr. Callaghan:

Advice has been issued to all chief officers of police on means of establishing a good relationship between the police and immigrant communities.

The sweeping allegations which have at times been made by some of the bodies representing coloured immigrants about police behaviour are much exaggerated. However I propose to invite the bodies concerned to discuss the matter with me.
