HC Deb 11 December 1967 vol 756 c59W
Earl of Dalkeith

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether, in view of the increasing importance of home-grown timber production to the national economy following devaluation of the£ sterling, he will now introduce a grant for forestry roads similar to the grant for agricultural roads, so as to ensure the swift and efficient extraction of timber.

Mr. Ross

Devaluation should help to make the prices of home-grown timber more competitive with those of imported timber. The question whether any further incentives to the production of homegrown timber, such as a grant for forest roads, are needed would have to be looked at against this background.
