HC Deb 04 May 1966 vol 727 c132W
Mr. Clegg

asked the Attorney-General whether the Government will introduce legislation to set up further Crown courts to deal with criminal matters, including one at Preston, and so relieve pressure on the existing Crown courts at Manchester and Liverpool and the assizes at Lancaster.

The Solicitor-General

The Government do not consider that it would be desirable to set up further Crown Courts in Lancashire at the present time. Steps have already been taken to relieve the pressure on the Crown Courts at Liverpool and Manchester, where the county court judges sit in rotation to assist the Recorders, and arrangements are now being made to give further help of this kind at Manchester.
