HC Deb 09 March 1966 vol 725 cc567-8W
Mr. Onslow

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what charge is made by the Treasury for the collection of the political levy from trades union members of the Civil Service; and if he will take steps to discover how this compares with the estimated cost of collection by the unions themselves.

Mr. Diamond

A charge of 2½ per cent. is at present made for the service of deducting subscriptions (including, where appropriate, the political levy) from pay for those associations and members who wish to have deductions made at source. This charge, which should cover the present cost, will be reviewed after the scheme has been running for two years.
