Mr. Clark Hutchison

asked the Minister of Transport, in view of Her Majesty's Government's new policy, if she will give a general direction, in the public interest, to the Railways Board to make no increases in rail fares in Scotland during the next 12 months.

For the method by which the Government's policy in this matter is to be implemented I would invite the hon. Member to await the White Paper foreshadowed in the statement by my right hon. Friend the Prime Minister on 20th July.
