HC Deb 04 July 1966 vol 731 cc8-9W
64 Mr. William Hamilton

asked the Minister of Labour if he is aware that the directors of Television Wales West, the independent television organisation for Wales and the West of England, are increasing directors' salaries by over 50 per cent.; and whether he will refer this and similar matters to the National Board for Prices and Incomes.

Mrs. Shirley Williams

I understand that the company has obtained authority from the shareholders to increase the total amount available for directors' fees, but that no general increase in fees is intended. The previous total was established in 1962, and the purpose of the increase is to permit the reward of extra duties and responsibilities where they have been undertaken. The Prices and Incomes policy applies, to directors' fees as to all forms of income, and whilst my information does not suggest that this case is a particularly suitabe one for reference to the National Board for Prices and Incomes I would not rule out the possibility of the National Board being asked at some time to consider the fees being paid to directors.
