HC Deb 04 July 1966 vol 731 c8W
63. Mr. Ridley

asked the Minister of Labour if he will seek to revise the Redundancy Payments Act, so that those who are redundant, but are absorbed into the same firm at a lesser rate of pay, may be entitled to some compensation.

Mrs. Shirley Williams

I do not think it would be practicable to impose a legal requirement of this kind.

67. Mr. Macdonald

asked the Minister of Labour if he will seek to amend the Redundancy Payments Act 1965 so that it may cover long-serving part-time employees even though their hours of working may be less than 21 per week.

Mrs. Shirley Williams

No. But my right hon. Friend has powers to make orders under Section 7 of the Contracts of Employment Act to bring down the limit so as to keep in line with reductions in the average working week, and the possibility of such action is constantly under review.
