HC Deb 04 July 1966 vol 731 cc2-3W
Mr. Abse

asked the Minister of Health whether he is aware of the public concern with the lack of hospital facilities available in Monmouthshire for geriatric and elderly psychiatric cases; whether he is aware that, despite long waiting lists and available beds, lack of staff prevents needed admissions taking place at Penyval Hospital, Abergavenny; what action is being taken to recruit and train suitable nursing staff and increase the number of beds available for geriatric and elderly psychiatric cases in Monmouthshire.

Mr. K. Robinson

No beds in Pen-y-Val Hospital are empty because of staff shortage. More nurses are being sought by advertisement, talks to schools and careers conventions. Major developments proposed for Monmouthshire are mentioned in Cmnd. 3000. Meanwhile the Welsh Hospital Board propose to provide additional geriatric beds at Griffithstown and Chepstow.
