Mr. John Hyndasked the Minister of Transport what study she has made of the result of the tests, a copy of which has been sent to her, carried out by the American Association of State Highway Officials on the relationship between road wear and axle loads; and what action she will take in the light of these findings.
§ Mrs. CastleI have recently published revised road pavement design standards which are to be used for future motorway and trunk road schemes. The standards are also recommended for all other types of road for which I am not the highway authority. When drafting the standards, the Working Party gave full consideration to the American Association of State Highway Officials Road Test results.
