HC Deb 21 December 1966 vol 738 c313W
66. Mr. Hector Hughes

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will specify the progress made in stopping the drift south from North-East Scotland of workers, male and female, with particular regard to skilled craftsmen and women, indicating their respective trades.

Mr. Ross

The Government's new incentives to industrial investment which now apply to the whole North-East, and other measures, such as the provision of advance factories, are all helping to promote new growth there. The Economic Planning Consultative Group for the North-East has commissioned Aberdeen University to make a comprehensive survey of the economic resources of the North-East as a basis for further development. I am sorry that no detailed information of the occupations of people leaving the area is available.
