HC Deb 21 June 1965 vol 714 c160W
Sir J. Gilmour

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what steps are taken when mental patients are given temporary release to their homes to ensure that any conditions laid down to ensure their proper supervision are observed.

Mr. Ross

In the case of an ordinary patient detained under the Mental Health (Scotland) Act, 1960 it is the duty of the doctor in charge of the patient's treatment in hospital to see that appropriate arrangements are made for his supervision while absent on leave. The arrangements for supervision to ensure that conditions are observed vary from case to case; but it is common practice for the doctor to make the arrangements with responsible relatives.
