HC Deb 21 June 1965 vol 714 cc141-2W
Mr. Lomas

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs how many times during the last five years the United Kingdom's representative at the United Nations has been instructed to raise the question of the admission of China to the United Nations.

Mr. Padley

The seating of China at the United Nations is a matter which must be considered by the General Assembly. An item urging that China should be seated has been regularly inscribed on the agenda of all the sessions of the General Assembly during the past five years. There has therefore been no occasion for the United Kingdom representative to raise the matter. Since 1961, however, Her Majesty's representative has had instructions to vote in favour whenever the matter was raised.
