HC Deb 04 February 1965 vol 705 c302W
22. Mr. Gresham Cooke

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will now introduce legislation to allow compensation for material damage, such as crashed motor cars, suffered by persons who go to the assistance of the police in combating crime.

Mr. George Thomas

It has long been the practice for police authorities to makeex gratia payments in appropriate cases to compensate persons who go to the assistance of the police and sustain damage to their property as a result. My right hon. Friend believes that these arrangements are adequate and that legislation is not required.
