HC Deb 02 February 1965 vol 705 cc251-2W
33. Mr. Gresham Cooke

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government what plans he has for reducing the use of bricks in connection with the construction of new houses; what schemes he has in that connection to make greater use of modern substitutes such as prefabricated panels; and whether he will arrange to circularise local authorities on this subject.

Mr. Mellish

My right hon. Friend is constantly encouraging the wider use of industrialised methods based on a variety of materials, including different types of panels. Local authorities are kept informed, through day-to-day contacts, of what is available, and are encouraged to arrange joint programmes to obtain the best results. He will shortly be telling authorities, in a circular, of the help they can obtain from the National Building Agency in selecting and using industrialised systems.
