HL Deb 21 December 1965 vol 271 c1036WA
LORD BROCKWAY

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What arrangements have been made for joint participation in military bases and airstrips in the Middle East and Far East; and whether this extends to Cyprus.

LORD SHACKLETON

Neither in the Middle East nor in Cyprus have any arrangements been made amounting to joint participation in military bases or airstrips, although in all theatres some of our military facilities are, of course, made available from time to time for use by our friends and allies. We, in turn, benefit from reciprocal arrangements.

In Singapore and Malaysia there is joint participation with our Commonwealth partners in all respects necessary for the defence of the area.
