asked Her Majesty's Government:

To give figures of central Government expenditure for each year from 1960-61 to 1965-66 on:

(a) grants to national voluntary organisations for headquarters administration, including the cost of coaching schemes;

In addition to the expenditure shown above, it is estimated that of the £400,000 which the Government has agreed to make available to the Football Association towards the cost of improving facilities at football grounds on which the 1966 World Cup Games will be played, £250,000 will be spent in the current financial year.

NOTES:

1. The figures shown in the above table relate to expenditure in England, Scotland and Wales.

2. Column (a) relates to grants to national voluntary sports organisations under the Physical Training and Recreation Act, 1937, towards their expenditure on administration and coaching.

(b) capital grants to voluntary bodies under the Physical Training and Recreation Act for the provision and improvement of sports facilities;

(c) other grants for the assistance of sport.

The amount paid in direct Exchequer grants for the financial years 1960-61 to 1964-65 and the estimated amount for 1965-66 are as follows:

3. Column (b) includes in the case of Scotland capital grants to district councils which are made under the Physical Training and Recreation Act, 1937.

4. Column (c) relates mainly to assistance to national voluntary organisations in respect of international teams competing overseas, grants for which were made for the first time in 1964–65. The figure for 1964–65 includes a grant of £30,000 to the British Olympic Association towards the cost of the Tokyo Olympic Games. The figure for 1965–66 includes approximately £4,000 on research.
