§ LORD BROCKWAYasked Her Majesty's Government:
Whether they will exert their influence with the Governments of Malaysia and Singapore to enter peace talks with Indonesia in view of the offer made by Dr. Subandrio, the Foreign Minister of Indonesia, to negotiate with Malaya, Singapore, Sabah, Sarawak and Brunei for a settlement.
§ LORD BESWICKNo, my Lords. The Government of Malaysia has stated that this Indonesian proposal, calling as it does for negotiations with the component States of Malaysia, constitutes an interference in the internal affairs of an independent and sovereign nation. However the Governments of both Malaysia and Singapore have reaffirmed their readiness for peace talks with Indonesia on an acceptable basis.
