HC Deb 09 December 1965 vol 722 c138W
60. Mr. Pavitt

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department why seven first offenders who were minors were held on remand in Wormwood Scrubs Prison in 1963; and what is the total number of places now available in remand homes for minors who may come before the Willesden Magistrates' Court.

Miss Bacon

Of the seven minors held on remand at Wormwood Scrubs in 1963, five were remanded there by a court of assize, one was transferred there from Lewes prison, and one was held there because he was liable to return to borstal following an earlier sentence. At least three of the seven are known to have had previous convictions. Ashford Remand Centre can take all minors remanded in custody by the Willesden Magistrates' Court.
