HC Deb 28 April 1965 vol 711 cc50-1W
52. Mr. John Hall

asked the Minister of Transport what revenue has been earned from parking meters installed in the Greater London area since they were first installed; what balance was left over after the payment of all expenses to provide and maintain off-street car parks; and what proportion of this balance has been used for this purpose.

Mr. Tom Fraser

Up to the end of March, 1964, the total revenue earned from parking meters in the Greater London area was £2,286,888; the balance available for the provision and maintenance of off-street car parks was £609,387, and the amount applied for this purpose was £210,566.

The figures for the year ended 31st March, 1965, are not yet available.

69. Mr. Bossom

asked the Minister of Transport whether he will inquire into local authorities' progress in planning off-street parking facilities before he authorises a parking meter scheme in a specific area.

Mr. Tom Fraser

Yes. In deciding whether to authorise a parking meter scheme I am required by statute to have regard to the extent to which off-street parking accommodation is available, or its provision is likely to be encouraged, in the neighbourhood.
