HC Deb 04 May 1964 vol 694 c122W
63. Mr. E. L. Mallalieu

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs why, in his speech to the meeting of the Central Treaty Organisation on 28th April 1964, he did not mention the desirability of Governments allocating troops for use by the United Nations in its peace-keeping activities.

Mr. P. Thomas

My right hon. Friend, the Foreign Secretary, had originally intended to mention this in his speech, but as time was short at the end of the meeting of the Central Treaty Organisation, he decided to omit the passage in question. This decision had no other significance. My right hon. Friend dealt fully with the whole question of building up the peace-keeping capabilities of the United Nations in his speech to the Disarmament Conference at Geneva on 25th February. Her Majesty's Government's policy on the question of countries earmarking troops for use by the United Nations has also been made clear in answer to recent Questions in this House.
