§ 46. Sir B. Jannerasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department when he expects to receive the report of the Departmental Committee on Jury Service; and what steps he proposes to take before the new rateable values assessed under the Rating and Valuation Act come into effect to retain the position which exists at the present time of using property qualification for eligibility for jury service.
§ 68. Mrs. Hartasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department when he will announce the names of those serving on the departmental committee inquiring into the law and practice in England and Wales relative to jury service; when its inquiries will be completed and its report published; and what factors are responsible for the delay in the appointment of its members.
§ Mr. BrookeI have been considering carefully the membership of this committee and hope to announce the names shortly. I have already informed the House that Lord Morris of Borth-y-Gest has agreed to act as Chairman. I cannot at this stage hazard an opinion on how long the committee will take to complete its work. Revaluation for rating purposes will, of course, have the effect of extending eligibility for jury service; no special action in this respect seems to me necessary.
