HC Deb 28 March 1963 vol 674 cc170-1W
43. Mr. Oram

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will make regulations under the Consumer Protection Act, 1961, to control the standards of manufacture of electric blankets and bed-warmers.

74. Mr. Dempsey

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department, if, in view of the growing number of accidents in the home caused by electric blankets, he will consult the Fire Prevention Authorities with a view to devising more effective safeguards, and introducing regulations accordingly.

Mr. Woodhouse

My right hon. Friend understands that the British Standards Institution is urgently reviewing its present standard for electric blankets. If it is found, after the revised standard is available, that blankets continue to be on sale which do not come up to the requirements of the standard, my right hon. Friend will be prepared to consider making regulations under the Act.
