HC Deb 24 July 1963 vol 681 c195W
102. Mr. W. Hamilton

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether, in view of the annual loss of life caused by bronchitis, and the fact that one of the major causes of the disease is air pollution, he will give local authorities and private householders greater financial inducements to replace open fireplaces with more efficient fuel-burning appliances.

Mr. Noble

I am glad to say that better progress is now being made with clean air in Scotland, and I am advised that in present circumstances the grant arrangements are not proving an impediment.
