HC Deb 18 July 1963 vol 681 c73W
10. Mr. Jay

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs if he will seek to amend the Housing Act, 1957, to provide that compensation may be paid by local authorities to shopkeepers whose trade may suffer during the demolition and clearance of a neighbouring area.

Sir K. Joseph

I have no reason to think that the existing power is inadequate. Local authorities have been asked to make full use of their powers to make discretionary payments, wherever appropriate.
