asked the Minister of Transport what progress has been made on the Durham through road.

Mr. Galbraith

My right hon. Friend the Minister of Housing and Local Government will shortly be announcing his decision on the City of Durham's development proposals. We have informed the Durham County Council, which is the highway authority, that, subject to this, we would be prepared to pay grant to enable work on the main part to be started this year.
