§ 71. Sir T. Beamishasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs whether he is aware that the powers given to local authorities under the Public Health Act, 1961, and the Litter Act, 1958, are in sufficient to enable them to remove all kinds of refuse, including car bodies and scrap metal, which are being dumped in increasing quantities all over the country; and what proposals he has to remedy this situation.
§ Mr. CorfieldIn addition to the powers mentioned by my hon. and gallant Friend there is Section 74 of the Public Health Act, 1936, which enables local authorities to dispose of refuse on request; I am advised that this provision is wide enough to include car bodies and scrap metal. If my hon. and gallant Friend cares to submit any evidence that the present provisions are inadequate my right hon. Friend will gladly consider it.
