Mr. Godman Irvineasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs what proposals he has for holding a planning inquiry to enable local opinion to be expressed about the site for the proposed sub-station to be erected by 142W the Central Electricity Generating Board in Potman's Lane, Catsfield.
§ Mr. CorfieldNone, I understand that the Battle Rural District Council decided on 25th July that, subject to agreement on the widening of Potman's Lane, it would be prepared to grant permission for this proposal. Before reaching this decision the council took into account objections by local residents and it intends to attach conditions to the permission designed to safeguard the amenities of the area. The decision to allow this development is well within the competence of the council and my right hon. Friend sees no ground for taking the matter out of its hands.
