§ Mr. A. Lewisasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer why the retail price index has risen by 1.7 per cent. since July, 1961; and what further action he now proposes to take to stabilise prices.
§ Sir E. BoyleThe increase was due to rises in the average level of prices in all groups other than food. If we can succeed in keeping increases in personal incomes within the long-term increase in national production on the lines set out74W in the recent White Paper, I believe that this will do more than anything else to stabilise prices.
