HC Deb 13 February 1962 vol 653 cc129-30W
66. Mr. Sorensen

asked the President of the Board of Trade from what Commonwealth countries goods imported into this country are normally marked as Empire made, or with some similar description, as opposed to a specific indication of their country of origin; and to what extent goods imported from non-Commonwealth countries are not marked with accurate indications of the country of origin.

Mr. N. Macpherson

There are no statistics separately distinguishing imports of goods marked "Empire" or "Foreign", as the case may be, from those marked with some more specific indication of origin, nor is it possible to generalise as to the countries whose goods are normally marked with the name of the country of origin rather than "Empire" or "foreign", where such marking is required.
