HC Deb 04 December 1962 vol 668 c145W
29. Mr. Ginsburg

asked the Parliamentary Secretary for Science if he will institute a statiscal survey of the emigration of British physicists to the United States of America in recent years, and an inquiry into main causes of such emigration.

Mr. Denzil Freeth

According to published American sources, in the years 1957 to 1961 the following numbers of physicists entered the United States direct from this country; 1957, 35; 1958, 35; 1959, 33; 1960, 44; 1961, 56.

The Royal Society is undertaking a Survey as regards physicists, and the Social Survey is also undertaking some relevant inquiries. I do not think any further statistical survey is needed at present.
