HC Deb 04 December 1962 vol 668 c149W
39. Mr. Snow

asked the Parliamentary Secretary for Science when it is proposed to authorise the provision of a 4-Ge V electron synchrotron, a linear accelerator for Glasgow University and a low power nuclear reactor for use at or near Queen Mary College of the University of London; what are estimated to be the respective costs of these installations; and what grants will be made.

Mr. Denzil Freeth

Authorisation of the electron synchrotron was announced in the House on 25th July.

I am glad to say that the promised reconsideration of the Glasgow linear accelerator project is now taking place. I will inform the House of the outcome when a decision has been reached.

There is no early prospect of reconsidering the application for a second reactor for London University.

The respective estimated costs of these projects are respectively about £3½ million, about £1 million, and about £250,000.
