asked the Parliamentary Secretary for Science what proportion of Government research funds is spent on cancer research.

Mr. Denzil Freeth

The Medical Research Council's expenditure on cancer research in the current financial year represents 11.7 per cent. of the Council's budget. It is not at present possible to calculate this as a percentage of the total research expenditure by the Government.
