Mr. Gaitskell

asked the Prime Minister what proposals he has for the presentation of gifts to the Government and Parliament of Trinidad to mark Trinidad's attainment of independence on 31st August.

The Prime Minister

The whole House will, I feel sure, wish to send hearty congratulations to Trinidad on her forthcoming Independence with best wishes for the happiness and prosperity of her people. Her Majesty's Government will propose that this House should offer the gift of a bookcase containing Constitutional and Parliamentary works of reference to the Legislative Council of Trinidad. Her Majesty's Government for their part have decided to offer a gift of a silver table centrepiece to the Government of Trinidad.
