Mr. Gaitskell

asked the Prime Minister what proposals he has for the presentation of gifts to the Government and Parliament of Uganda to mark Uganda's attainment of independence on 9th October.

The Prime Minister

The whole House will, I feel sure, wish to send hearty congratulations to Uganda on her forthcoming Independence with best wishes for the happiness and prosperity of her people. Her Majesty's Government will propose that this House should offer to the National Assembly of Uganda the gift of a Mace. Her Majesty's Government for their part have decided to offer a gift of a silver table centrepiece to the Government of Uganda to commemorate Uganda's attainment of Independence.
