Mr. Dempsey

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland to what extent the salary of a state registered nurse is reduced when enrolled as a pupil midwife; if he is aware of the hardship this causes; and if he will consult the appropriate authorities, with a view to terminating this practice.

Mr. Maclay

The salary of a state registered nurse (or registered general nurse in Scotland) ranges from £525 to £656 per annum. The training allowance payable to a pupil midwife who is a slate registered nurse is £441 per annum. Questions of salaries and training allowances are for the Nurses and Midwives Whiteley Council.
