HC Deb 19 April 1962 vol 658 c125W
Dr. A. Thompson

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland when the Scottish National Housing Company Limited first built houses in the Rosyth area; what was the capital cost then; and if he will give an estimate of the aggregate amount received in rent since that time.

Mr. Maclay

The company built 1,602 houses between 1915 and 1919, and a further 270 at various times between 1922 and 1950, at a total capital cost of about £1,185,000. The aggregate amount received in rent for all the houses has been about £1,300,000. The company's income from rent has not been sufficient yearly to cover the outgoings on loan charges and maintenance and management charges.

Dr. A. Thompson

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what consultations the Scottish National Housing Company Limited had with their tenants in the Rosyth area before announcing their proposed rent increases.

Mr. Maclay

The company had no prior consultations with the tenants of the houses in Rosyth. Letters were issued to the tenants during the week ending 14th April explaining that it was proposed to increase the rents of the houses with effect from 28th May.
